Rowann Solvado
Profession: Ex-mercenary, Initiate in the Circle of Defenders.
Age: 28
Personality:
Rowann is a young, pessimistic human male.
His negative characteristics, his impatience, pride, short temper and love for fighting has gotten him into many fights, if it wasn’t for his excellent skill with weaponry, he would’ve probably lost his life long ago.
One of the aspects in which Rowann excels is battle awareness and his ability to keep his head (relatively) cool in fights make him a force to be reckoned with.
Opponents who view Rowann as a simple minded, savage fighter are up for an unpleasant surprise, his knowledge of battle makes up for lack of wisdom.
Nowadays, Rowann longs for adventure, be this either mapping the Naga infested shores of Azshara, or the Qiraji holds in Silithius.
His often reckless behaviour has almost cost him his right eye.
To strangers, Rowann might seem a person you could best avoid, but to those close to him he is a loyal friend on which you can rely, even in the darkest of times.
Rowann’s history.
- 3 years before Warcraft : Orc’s and Humans
Rowann started his life as the youngest Solvado brother, living in a luxurious mansion in Westfall, he became what he refers to as “A rotten, spoiled brat”.
At the age of 14, his older brother, Quintas, successfully completed his initiation as one of the first Paladins in Azeroth.
Inspired by the success of Quintas, young Rowann asked for permission to leave Westfall and travel to the forests of Elwynn, to study the light at Northshire Abbey.
How-ever, in his 3 years of study at the abbey, the light would never reach Rowann.
Instead of shaping it, he tried to force it, and make it bend to his will, similar to the ways a Warlock would handle the energy’s of the nether.
His mentors warned him that the light would not tolerate such selfishness, but Rowann could not care less, after all, “real power is taken, not given”.
Hearing this, the council decided that Rowann did not have the mindset a Paladin required, and that his reckless use of the light would take it’s toll.
Rowann was expelled from the Abbey, frustrated by the ignorance of the council, Rowann would not head home before he had attained at least achieved strength equal to those of his brother.
Armed with only his old training sword and a improvised buckler, he set out in his quest to achieve powers equal to those of a Paladin, equal to those of his brother.
For days, he fought his way trough hordes of kobolds, murlocs and the occasional huge mutated spider, he could feel his strength grow with every single life he took, cursing the ways of the light, now knowing that one could only rely on his own flesh, bone, blood and sinew.
- 9 years after Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness
Rowann’s confidence in his ability’s grew, until the day he ran into a meeting of Defias thugs, the young warrior was easily overwhelmed by them.
For days, he was pummelled, kicked and mocked at, his anger grew every second, but so did his fear.
Realizing that they would ‘dispose’ of him soon, his fear finally overtook.
A loud cry for help echoed trough the forests. The young warrior, just realizing that he just signed his own death warrant, was overcome with terror.
The silhouette of a masked Defias thug entered the tent, grabbing Rowann’s leg and dragging him to the campfire.
For a mere second, the forest was silent, something startled the thugs. All of a sudden, Rowann heard it as well, the metallic sound of a warhorse galloping over the forest soil.
Silence, out of the dark came a cry, the battlecry of a warrior, it chilled him to the core.
A loud “thud” resonated trough the forest, the defias that stood over him fell down to the ground, followed by the armoured hooves of a warhorse.
The lifeless body of the Defias rolled down the camp, taking down a stack of weaponary with it.
Another ‘thud’ was heard when the rider dismounted, the clash of plate-mail, a sound like no other.
With a eery calm the silhouette unsheated his sword, the Defias simply standing there, paralyzed.
The fight literally lasted 4 seconds, never had Rowann seen someone move so fast in such armor, never had he seen someone swing a sword with so much grace and force, never had felt so weak by simply staring at someone.
His mind was made up, this person would become his master…
.. and he did.
“ Ethion, he calls himself, he never told me his last name, I doubt he has one “
His father, Regald Solvado, was furious, “What where you thinking! First you almost get yourself killed, and now you want to join this … outcast!”
“ Listen old man, I was never destined to become a paladin in the first place, now that I have finally found my calling, why put me trough all that crap again!? ”
“ At least Quintas had vision, the way you chose only leads to death and suffering! ”
“ If that is what it takes to become stronger, then so be it! ”
Regald gestured to the door; “ Leave, now, but don’t expect us to take pity on y- ” he was abruptly cut off, Rowann slammed the door behind him.
“ Let’s get out of here Era ”, he looked over his shoulders once more, he wouldn’t see his house again in a long time.
More to come; Rowann trains with Ethion, Ethion convinces Rowann to become a enforcer for his brotherhood, the Red Blade guild.
When Ethion loses his rank in the brotherhood, they start to accept ‘funding’ from several factions; Rowann ends up working as a merc for them.
He notices that the brotherhood started moving south, past the mountains of Khaz’Modan, into the lands of Arathor.
Rowann still keeps in contact with his brother, although minimal, 6 weeks before he quits the guild he stops receiving letters, he grows suspicious and his will to leave the ‘safety’ of the guild grows.
Ethion mentions that the old brotherhoods is no more, Rowann noticed that his last orders became increasingly more cruel and inhumane, decides that it Ethion is right and they help eachother escape the newly former mercenary guild;
- Warcraft 3 timeline
Rowann; now 24 years old; is convinced that he is strong enough to aid his brother in the northern regions of Lordaeron.
When he arrives he finds that the scarlet crusade had lay siege upon the settlement where his brother was stationed.
He runs into a couple of Scarlet knights, after a long fight he manages to beat them, takes one of their tabards, and attempts to infiltrate the Scarlet Crusade in order to find out whereto the citizens and his brother retreated.
After hearing that the Scarlet Crusade had discovered survivors to the east, Rowann overwhelms a guard and steals his armor, and heads out south.
2 days later, he meets up with a handful of survivors and warns them that the Scarlet Crusade is onto them; when he tells them to flee to Stratholme.
Rowann is shocked to hear that prince Arthas Menethil has personally eradicated Stratholme; nevertheless, they can only move south now, and hope for the best.
They finally meet up with his brothers squad, only to hear that his Quintas had been missing since the attack of the Scarlet Crusade.
Rowann decideds to head back, but runs into a pack of Scarlet Crusaders, Rowann flees towards the south, once he reaches the snow covered soil of Alterac, the Scarlets give chase.
Deciding that it’s best to move out of sight, he travels along the southern foot of the Alterac Mountains, eventually he heads north, and ends up in a devastated Lordaeron.
Rowann, not sure of what happened heads on north, deciding that if the burning legion had something to do with it, he’d better not enter.
He searches for two more weeks and runs into countless scourge minions and a handful survivors of the plague.
After hearing about the plague spreading, he is starting to doubt that his brother is still alive.
Broken and mourning he travels to the south, and ends up in what is now known as Southshore.
He tells the locals that he is forming a salvage party, for the coming year and a half he searches trough the ruins of Lordaeron finding not a single trace of his brother.
Rowann decides that the possibility of Quintas being alive is near zero, and sets course to the mountains of Khaz’Modan, where he resides in the city of Ironforge for a half a year.
- World of Warcraft timeline
Rowann leaves the region of Khaz’Modan, and travels north again, to Menethil Harbor, from there, he takes a boat to Theramore Isle, from there-on he travels trough the lands of Kalimdor, in search of adventure and wealth.
While fighting back the gurubashi trolls in Zul’Farak, he gets careless and takes a near fatal blow, heavily injuring his right eye.
- This is where the current timeline sets in
Having visited most of the Kalimdor, Rowann heads back to the city of Stormwind to settle for a while.
There he runs into Mangohran, commander of the Circle of Defenders, after having talked a while, Rowann decides that joining the Circle would be a good way to repent for his abuse of the light, the crimes he committed while in contract of the brotherhood, and perhaps discover what happened to his brother.
Appearance:
Tall, muscular and a bruised, Rowann’s body does not attempt to hide his rough past, his armor is battered and badly maintained, a long cloak drags behind him, torn and stained by the rain.
A eye-patch covers most of his his right eye, revealing only a deep cut.
The left eye just seems to stare into the distance, and wanders of every few seconds.
As a weapon, he wields a giant pole arm, covered in tribal markings, the tip touches the ground every few steps he takes.
Reputation:
Rowann isn't recognised among those living in Strormwind, this due to his only recent arrival. His deeds in Lordaeron were never recorded, and most of the new Alliance currently inhabiting the northern parts of Lordaeron barely know of Rowann’s existence.
However, Rowann is well-known in the Scarlet Crusade for successfully infiltrating amongst their ranks, escaping up to 2 times from them and murdering over a dozen of Scarlet Crusaders in the time span of only weeks.
He does not wish for fame and glory, though he wishes to leave a mark on Azeroth at the end of his era.
